Life skills are the skills that a person must possess in order to successfully live in today's world. These include knowing how to work at a job and be part of a team, manage money, manage time, live as part of a family and learning effective communication skills. Unfortunately, many people grow to adulthood lacking necessary life skills to successfully thrive in their own lives.
All students have their life management skills levels assessed upon beginning the program in order to determine the appropriate level of services. Our goal is that each young adult in our program develops the life skills needed to transition to independent living. Some students may need more or less of the following services based on their individual level of independence.
Weinstein, a psychotherapist, and Brunelle, a former public school teacher, are both from Portland, Maine. Programs are led by experts in their respective fields who give motivational speeches and demonstrations during the events. Weinstein also told CNSNews that young adults are often pressured into attending college, where they acquire a degree but eventually find themselves buried under a mountain of debt.
The overarching objective of the Rainbow Village program is to facilitate a change in behavior in the families that seek our assistance. A fundamental component of achieving this goal is to help the adult heads-of-household identify the learned behaviors that contribute to their homelessness, while providing the environment, opportunities and resources that will allow them to replace those limiting behaviors with more adaptive ones. To cover important information in the five core areas, residents are required to attend all scheduled classes two evenings each week during the school year and one evening each week during the summeraveraging 80 classes per year.

We certainly feel that way: We hold our own jobs, pay our own rent, cover our own bills, drive our own cars. Our credit is in order. Thankfully, last year we managed to throw a dinner party, our first, without burning the pork roast. A vague anxiety over these known-unknowns is something of a generational hallmark.
